Welcome to the 2024 Fall Semester!

The purpose of this blog is to promote a community of achievement and success for students - but also for faculty, staff, alumni, industry partners, and everyone who is impacted by Engineering Technology at Greenville Technical College.

As Engineering Technology faculty & staff, what is our purpose?

Our purpose is to provide GTC students with a world-class education, transforming them into well-qualified entry-level technicians for career employment in the local engineering, manufacturing, architecture, and construction industry.  This takes place when the student completes a certificate or a 2-year associate degree program.

The purpose of the Engineering Technology blog

We want this site to be a place where you can stay informed about news, events, and other happenings in ET in the School of ETPS.

Expect to see items along the lines of :

  • Program news & highlights
  • GTC and School of ETPS events
  • Faculty spotlights
  • Employer spotlights
  • Career Expo / Networking events
  • Co-Op / Internship / Employment Opportunities
  • Academic Coaching / Tutoring resources
  • Student / Alumni success stories
  • Local & regional news about Engineering and Manufacturing

The central hub of Engineering Technology in the School of ETPS is the Engineering Technology building on the Barton Campus (building 103) - although ET has recently been expanding its footprint at the CMI Campus as well.

Being a community college makes it a challenge for all of us to feel connected to the ET community in the School of ETPS.  Our hope is that this blog will provide to you a vehicle to be an active participant in Engineering Technology, and benefit from every opportunity to succeed in your educational and career goals.

Advice for students

One of the most important things you can do is establish a mentor/advisor relationship with a faculty member within your program of study. This is one of the most important ways that students achieve, succeed, and graduate.

Second, you must put in the effort to be successful in your academics. You cannot do Greenville Tech only when you are on campus - being organized and self-disciplined is the key.

Third, take advantage of academic coaches at GTC and the Engineering Technology Tutor who are available to assist you.  Our Engineering Technology tutor can be reached for an appointment at gvltec.mywconline.com.

ET provides students with opportunities to continue to a 4-year degree

First, you can do this by enrolling in one of our Engineering Transfer tracks - in which you can take the first two years of a bachelor's of science in engineering program before transferring to another institution for the third and fourth years.

Second, for students who graduate with an associate degree in engineering technology - you can matriculate into what is called a 2+2 program.  For example, you can choose the new BAS in Advanced Manufacturing 2+2 program at GTC's Center for Manufacturing Innovation (CMI) campus.  Or, you can choose the BS in Engineering Technology Management 2+2 program at USC-Upstate.

Outlook - Fall of 2024

The job market in engineering at this time greatly favors those who are looking for employment.  This is your time to complete your program to become a career professional.  If you have any questions about job seeking - let your faculty or advisor assist you.

May you all have a successful 2024 fall semester!
